Chasing Holden (2003)

College student Neil becomes obsessed with the novel Catcher in the Rye When instructed to write a hypothetical new chapter to the book describing what he thinks happened to protagonist Holden Caulfield, Neil balks, insisting this would be tantamount to vandalism He attempts to write JD Salinger to ask permission to do the assignment, but when Salinger doesn't reply, the increasingly mentally unhinged Neil steals a Luger from the dean's gun collection and along with his kleptomaniac classmate TJ journeys cross-country to Salinger's home with the aim of forcing the reclusive author to see him
